» GAME
ONE STATISTICS OLIVET, Mich. - The Albion College baseball team swept a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association doubleheader from Olivet College by scores of 4-2 and 5-0 to maintain its slim one-game lead over Adrian College atop the league standings. Albion (23-14 overall, 12-3 MIAA) is scheduled to play its final three league games at Calvin College Thursday and Friday, May 6 and 7. Adrian (11-4 MIAA) will visit Alma College for its final league series. In game one, Albion rallied from a 2-0 deficit by scoring a run in each of its final four at bats. Senior Matt Shook (Coldwater/Coldwater), juniors Brian Sayers (Chelsea/Chelsea) and Chris Trott (Plymouth/Salem), and sophomore Mike Pisha (Wixom/Walled Lake Western) each drove in a run. Trott, Shook, and senior Mike Cieszkowski (Howell/Hartland) all had two hits in the contest. On the mound, senior Steve Gordon (Plymouth/Salem) allowed two runs, six hits and three walks over six innings to gain his fifth victory of the season. Gordon recorded six strikeouts. Sophomore Matt Lipsey (Grand Ledge/Grand Ledge) recorded the final three outs to earn his first save of the season. In the nightcap, Trott produced the only run junior pitcher David Seales (Alma/Alma) would need when he launched his third homerun over the season with two out in the first inning. Albion put the game out of reach by scoring four runs on five hits in the third inning. Pisha delivered the big blow with a two-run single through the left side of Olivet's infield. Sayers and Cieszkowski also drove in runs during the rally. Seales pitched his third shutout of the season on the mound. He allowed three hits and three walks while posting eight strikeouts. Seales now boasts a 5-4 record on the year. Updated May 02, 2004 by Albion College Sports Information |
