Albion's late rally shocks nationally-ranked OWUFORT MYERS, Fla. - The Albion College baseball team scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to complete a 6-5 come-from-behind victory over Ohio Wesleyan University, ranked 13th in the pre-season Division III national poll, at the Terry Park Stadium Tuesday, March 9. Albion is now 4-2 on its 10-game spring break trip to the Cape Coral/Fort Myers, Fla., area. The Britons continue action Wednesday with a single game against Thiel (Pa.) College. Thanks to some baserunning errors and a two-run homer by Adam Toney, OWU held a 5-2 lead after five innings. Albion's sixth inning rallied was powered by six hits. Senior center fielder Bret Gove (Clarkston/Clarkston), junior catcher Matt Cook (Lansing/Grand Ledge), junior rightfielder Chris Trott (Plymouth/Salem), and senior third baseman Mike Cieszkowski (Howell/Hartland) all produced run-scoring hits. Pitchers David Seales (Alma/Alma) and Matt Lipsey (Grand Ledge/Grand Ledge) helped give Albion a chance to win the game in the late innings. Seales, who was saddled with Monday's loss to Baldwin-Wallace College in a relief effort, started and worked into the fifth inning. He allowed four earned runs on seven hits and two walks. Lipsey did not allow a run in 1.1 innings on the mound to earn credit for the victory. Junior Jonathan Hastings (Fort Gratiot/Port Huron Northern) worked a scoreless seventh inning to gain credit for the save. Updated March 09, 2004 by Albion College Sports Information |
