FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Albion College baseball team
got off to a fast start Monday, scoring three runs in the first inning.
However, that was all the runs the Britons would get and Baldwin-Wallace
(Ohio) College scored two runs in the sixth and seventh innings to send
the Britons to a 4-3 loss in a spring break game at Terry Park.
In the first, senior second baseman Mark Flancbaum
(Orchard Lake/West Bloomfield) ripped a leadoff double to get the
Briton offense started in the bottom of the first inning. Junior
rightfielder Chris Trott (Plymouth/Salem), senior designated
hitter Matt Shook (Coldwater/Coldwater), and junior shortstop
Brian Sayers (Chelsea/Chelsea) all produced run-scoring hits in the
first inning.
The early runs held up behind the pitching of
sophomore Mike Pisha (Wixom/Walled Lake Western) and an infield
defense that turned three double plays. In five innings, Pisha allowed a
run on two hits and six walks. Pisha struck out four.
Baldwin-Wallace scored the winning run on a two run
blast by third baseman Mike Turchan with one out in the seventh.
Albion, 3-2 on its spring break trip to Florida, will
take the field against Ohio Wesleyan University Tuesday at noon.
