with 6-4 decision over Rochester

» GAME STATISTICS

ALBION, Mich. - The Albion College baseball team extended its winning streak to four games when it turned back Rochester College, 6-4, in a non-league game played at Frank Joranko Field Tuesday, April 27.

Albion trailed 4-2 as it went to bat in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Britons rallied for four runs on five hits in their final home at-bat of the 2004 season. Juniors David Seales (Alma/Alma) and Brian Sayers (Chelsea/Chelsea), and sophomores Richard Engelmann (Grand Blanc/Flint Powers) and Pete Grostic (Muskegon/Muskegon) each drove in a run for Albion in the eighth inning.

The eighth inning rally boosted sophomore pitcher Matt Lipsey (Grand Ledge/Grand Ledge), who worked a perfect eighth inning, to his third victory of the season. First-year pitcher Pat Cavanagh (Fenton/Powers Catholic) worked a perfect ninth inning to earn the first save of his collegiate career.

Albion scored its first two runs in the third inning. Sayers slugged a RBI double, and senior Matt Shook (Coldwater/Coldwater) singled in a run.

Shook was one of four Britons who were playing their final game at Frank Joranko Field. Joining Shook in the Class of 2004 are Mike Cieszkowski (Howell/Hartland), Mark Flancbaum (Orchard Lake/West Bloomfield), and Steve Gordon (Plymouth/Salem).
