Walks haunt Britons in loss to ConcordiaALBION, Mich. - Ten walks issued by the Albion College pitching staff came back to haunt the Britons in an 8-0 loss to Concordia University of Ann Arbor in a non-league game played at Frank Joranko Field. Albion's top two pitchers, junior Jonathan Hastings (Fort Gratiot/Port Huron Northern) and senior Steve Gordon (Plymouth/Salem), combined to work three scoreless frames to begin the day. Concordia scored four runs in the fourth inning, taking advantage of five walks and a Briton error. The Cardinals also scored two runs in the sixth inning and two runs in the eighth inning. Albion's offense produced three hits. Seniors Mike Cieszkowski (Howell/Hartland) and Matt Shook (Coldwater/Coldwater) and junior Chris Trott (Plymouth/Salem) each collected a single. Sophomore Mike Pisha (Wixom/Walled Lake Western) drew two walks. Senior Mark Flancbaum (Orchard Lake/West Bloomfield) and first-year outfielder Bryan Smith (Farmington/North Farmington) each drew a walk. Albion (16-14 overall) returns to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play Friday when it opens a three-game series against Hope College.
