Albion bows to ONU in an extra inning non-league game

ADA, Ohio - Eight errors in the field, including two in the 10th inning, hampered the Albion College baseball team in a 10-9 extra inning loss to Ohio Northern University in a non-league game played at Wander Field.

Albion scored three runs in the fourth inning and added a run in the fifth to claim a 4-0 lead. ONU answered with five runs in the sixth inning.

The lead swayed back-and-forth in the late innings. Albion scored twice in the seventh inning to reclaim the lead at 6-5. ONU plated two runs in the bottom of the eighth to go ahead, 7-6. Albion scored three times in the ninth to go in front 9-7. ONU sent the game to an extra inning by scoring two runs in the bottom of the ninth.

Senior Mark Flancbaum (Orchard Lake/West Bloomfield), junior Chris Trott (Plymouth/Salem), and sophomore Richard Engelmann (Grand Blanc/Flint Powers) led the Briton offense with three hits apiece. Trott and senior Matt Shook (Coldwater/Coldwater) drove in two runs each.

Albion (15-11 overall) returns to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play Friday, April 16, when it opens a three-game series against Adrian College at Frank Joranko Field.
