Cold day puts a chill in the Briton offense

» MARIAN STATISTICS
» ROSE-HULMAN STATISTICS

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The coldest weather the Albion College baseball team has played in all season (39 degrees with a northwest wind at 15 miles per hour) conspired to ice the Britons' bats on the second day of the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Invitational.

Albion managed only one run and nine hits in 15 innings, dropping a 2-0 decision to Marian (Ind.) College in eight innings and falling 6-1 to the host Engineers.

In the Marian game, Albion wasted a solid outing from junior pitcher David Seales (Alma/Alma), who allowed just three hits and five walks over eight innings.

The Britons best scoring chance came in the second inning. Senior designated hitter Matt Shook (Coldwater/Coldwater) drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore first baseman Mike Pisha (Wixom/Walled Lake Central). Shook advanced to third on a ground out, but was stranded there.

In the Rose-Hulman game, Albion trailed 2-1 when junior shortstop Brian Sayers (Chelsea/Chelsea) produced a single to score sophomore left fielder Richard Engelmann (Grand Blanc/Flint Powers) in the fifth inning.

The Engineers scored four times in the top of the sixth inning to seal the victory.

Senior second baseman Mark Flancbaum (Orchard Lake/West Bloomfield) led the Britons with two hits in the game.

The Britons posted a 2-2 record in the two-day Rose-Hulman tournament. Albion defeated Rose-Hulman, 3-2, and Wartburg (Iowa) College, 8-6, on Saturday. Albion is 7-7 on the year. The Britons are scheduled to play at home for the first time this season Friday, March 26, when they begin a three-game series against Tri-State (Ind.) University. Friday's nine-inning game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start. Albion and Tri-State will return for a doubleheader of seven-inning games Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock. All three games are scheduled for internet broadcast at http://media.albion.edu/sports.
