Other Distinctions

In recent years, Albion's athletic program has:

  • Earned Michigan's first NCAA football national championship (1994). Albion has won more league football championships (34) and made more NCAA postseason appearances (8) than any Division III school in Michigan.
  • Produced seven NCAA Division III national champions in track and field and 37 All-Americans in that sport since 1982.
  • Developed a swimming program that includes 24 Division III All-Americans for both men and women since 1984.
  • Made NCAA postseason appearances since 1993 in baseball, men's and women's cross country, men's basketball, women's basketball, football, women's soccer, men's and women's swimming, and men's and women's track and field.
  • Earned Academic All-America status in women's track & field from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association every year since 2002.
  • Earned Academic All-America status in men's track & field from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association from 1999-2002. The Britons also grained the distinction from 2006-2011.
  • Placed Lauren Kettle and Amanda Weaver on the list of All-Academic women's cross country individuals released by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the 2011 season. The men's and women's cross country teams have achieved All-America Team status every year since 2001.

  • Won more than 500 football games, an accomplishment shared with only four other teams in the state.
  • Won the 2009 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's soccer tournament and qualified for the NCAA Division III playoffs. Albion also won MIAA women's soccer championships to advance to the NCAA playoffs in 2000 and 2001.
  • Earned all-America recognition in NCAA championship competition 51 times since 1981 and won national individual championships on six occasions in that span.
  • Continued to lead all MIAA members in league championships for football (34) and baseball (30).
  • Produced 17 first team all-Americans in football, including Chris Greenwood, a 2011 member of the American Football Coaches Association team. The 17 All-Americans is the highest for any Michigan college or university below Division I-A.
  • Produced eight NCAA Postgraduate Scholars, covering baseball, women's basketball and football, including one recipient each year from 1993 through 1998.
  • Had 13 student-athletes accorded first team all-MIAA honors for four consecutive seasons, most recent being Melissa Hall in women's golf in 2000. Hall is only the third league golfer since the sport's inception in 1991 to earn first team all-MIAA honors for four seasons.
