Albion downs Adrian 4-1 behind hat-trick from Godlew

ALBION, Mich. - Boosted by a hat-trick by junior forward Jayne Godlew (Beverly Hills/Birmingham Groves), the Albion College women's soccer team earned a 4-1 victory over Adrian College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association contest at Alumni Field Saturday, Sept. 25.
With Albion in control behind an overpowering offense and a stifling defense, Adrian managed allowed only two total shots and one on goal in the match.
Albion went on the attack early, starting the contest with several shots by Godlew. Her fourth shot, a one-on-one opportunity, was converted for the first goal of the game.
Seven minutes later, Adrian notched its goal on an unassisted score by Julie Herbert.
Deanna DeRoo (Livonia/Churchill), Albion's junior goalkeeper, did not face a shot for the rest of the afternoon.
Shortly after AdrianÃ??s goal, Godlew provided Albion's answer with her second score of the game, with an assist from senior Allison Mills (Plymouth/Canton).
The Britons missed out on some scoring opportunities late in the first half, as a shot by Godlew hit off the crossbar and two plays were called offsides. Still, Albion took 16 shots and dictated the play in the first 45 minutes.
GodlewÃ??s completed her hat trick by scoring off a corner kick in the second half. As the clock wound down, sophomore Danielle Shepard (Plymouth/Canton) scored the final goal of the game.
Albion continues MIAA play at Kalamazoo College Wednesday, Sept. 29, at 4 p.m.
