There are five committees on Student Senate: Appropriations, Student Affairs, Faculty
& Academic Affairs, Campus & Community Relations,
and Technology. There are also
two governing boards: Executive Board and Ethics
Board.
Executive Board
The Executive Board is made up of the President, the Vice President,
Secretary, Treasurer, and the chairs of
each standing committee. Executive Board acts as a policy
and long-range planning board for the Senate, and assists
the President in duties of his or her office and coordinating
activities with the Senate. Executive Board is sometimes
referred to as "Cabinet" because of the latter
duty.
Appropriations Committee
The Appropriations Committee makes allocations of the
Student Activity Fee (SAF) to campus organizations. Each year,
the SAF generates a certain amount for the Appropriations
Committee to distribute. Appropriations also works with
issues relating to campus organizations and is responsible
for establishing a budget for the Senate.
Student Affairs Committee
The Student Affairs Committee is responsible for making
appointments to various institutional committees and
monitoring and making recommendations to administrative
departments whenever deemed necessary. The Student
Affairs Committee is often involved in working with the
administration, specifically the Division of Student
Affairs, to make policies and programs that the student
body need.
Faculty & Academic Affairs Committee
The Faculty & Academic Affairs Committee makes
recommendations to the Board of Trustees on tenure and
interim reviews of the faculty, and is also responsible for making general
recommendations about academic policies and procedures,
and awarding the Students Choice Award. The award is given
to one faculty member who has demonstrated an exceptional
commitment to the needs and concerns of the student body.
Campus & Community Relations Committee
The Campus & Community Relations Committee is responsible
for distributing public relations material to the campus
about Senate issues and campus and community events, and
also conducts
the first-year elections in the Fall and the general
Senate election in the Spring.
Technology Committee
The Technology Committee is charged with addressing student
concerns with regards to technology on campus and deals with Information Technology, Facilities, and other
arms of the College to work on student technology issues.
Ethics Board
The Ethics Board is compromised of five members
elected at the transitional senate meeting of each
academic year, at least three of which must be current
Senate members. The Ethics Board will convene on an
as-needed basis and acts as the arm of judicial review for Senate in all matters
concerning Constitutional and procedural rules.
