Gerstacker International House

I-House is an upper-class residential language instruction facility for students taking courses in French, German,
Japanese, and Spanish. Its goals are to promote second language acquisition and to encourage international awareness among its residents and the campus at-large. In order to achieve these goals, residents are required to participate in two types of activities:
-
Activities in the Language House corresponding to the student's target language.
-
International House activities that contribute to an understanding of the global issues fundamental to a liberal arts education.
An application is required during the Room Selection/Room Lottery process. An applicant must be in good academic and social standing to be considered.
Selection for residency in I-House is based on the following criteria:
-
A declared major or minor in French, German, or Spanish.
-
Previous or current participation in an off-campus program in any country where French, German,
Japanese, or Spanish is spoken.
-
Previous or current study of foreign language.
- In extreme cases, students may be assigned to the I-House to fill available
space. This is done on a case by case basis and attendance at I-House
functions is still a requirement.
