Religious Studies Students2006 Graduating MajorsThe Faculty and Staff of the Department of Religious Studies congratulate the four graduating seniors majoring in Religious Studies: Danica Dumsch, Brittany Hainline, Mathew Hancock, and Mathew Milligan. Congratulations, Seniors! Below you will find a brief description about each of them and their future career plans and goals. Danica L. Dumsch I am from Alpena, Michigan, majoring in Religious Studies Post-graduation plans: I'm currently applying to Master of Social Work programs, where I will specialize in mental health counseling. Brittany Hainline Mathew Hancock Mathew Milligan
Since I am graduating one year early, I am taking a year off before
graduate school. During that year off, I plan on publishing portions of
my Senior Departmental Paper. The Buddhist Studies program at UCLA is my
top choice for graduate school. While at UCLA, I would like to study
closely with Gregory Schopen to use early Indian Buddhist epigraphy to
reassess the nature of Buddhism in India. I would also like to pursue
language training in Sanskrit, Gandhari, Kharoshti, ancient Tibetan, and
the various Prakrits including Pali. My overarching goal is to fuse
archaeological and epigraphical investigation of popular Buddhist ritual
with the textual study of related Buddhist canons, including but not
limited to the largely unpublished Mulasarvastivada-Vinaya. In sum, my
focus is on ancient Buddhist uses of sacred space. My time here at
Albion has prepared me for such an undertaking because I have had the
opportunity to study religion in-depth through Directed Studies while
utilizing the unique knowledge of Professor Lars Fogelin's own research.
I must thank, again, my thesis committee which consists of Dr. Raj, Dr.
Mourad, and Dr. Menzies. Please click on the links below to learn about our
