Requirements for the Major

The Psychology major is being revised.  The requirements listed here are in effect for students who enter prior to Fall 2001.  It is possible that a new more structured major will be in place then.

All Psychology majors must take:

  • Either
    • Psychology 101: Introduction to Psychology, or
    • Psychology 102: Introduction to Scientific Psychology
  • At least 7 units in Psychology beyond 101 or 102, including:
    • Either:
      • Psychology 205: Research Methods, or
      • Our new, two-semester Research Design and Analysis sequence
    • A minimum of 4 courses at the 300 or 400 level
    • One upper level division laboratory course (PSY 343, 345, 348, 378)

Majors are required to take psychology courses for numerical grades, except those courses offered only on a credit/no credit basis.

Majors are required to participate in the department's assessment activities.

Majors are strongly encouraged to participate in the psychology practicum and/or directed study program during their junior and senior years.
