Football

•Record: 3-4 league, 5-5 overall, 5th in MIAA.

Last week: Albion 30, Tri-State 28.

This and that: The Britons earned a victory in their final game of the season. Jake Wilson, Romeo senior, stepped up to deliver the victory for the Britons and his fellow seniors. Wilson threw for 290 yards and three touchdowns to earn MIAA offensive player of the week honors. The league also announced its All-MIAA teams this past week. The Britons are represented by seven players.

All-MIAA first team:

Cornerback Chase Chandler, Novi senior.

Linebacker Tim Gough, Jackson senior.

Right tackle Kyle Robinson, Mulliken senior.

Wide reciever Pete Shaw, Livonia senior.

Defensive end Mike Sheldon, Royal Oak senior.

All-MIAA second team:

Right guard Brian Leighton, Gobles junior.

Honorable mention:

Tight end Zach Benko, Blissfield junior.

Men’s Soccer

•This and That: The MIAA announced their all-league teams. Ten Britons made the list.

All-MIAA first team:

Forward Jason Smith, Tecumseh senior.

Midfielder Clayton Wilson, Chelsea senior.

Defenseman Justin Ferriman, Northville senior.

All-MIAA second team:

Forward David Knox, Chelsea senior.

Midfielder Alan Anderson, Ann Arbor sophomore.

Defenseman Kyle Wulf, Naperville, Ill. first-year.

Goalkeeper Dan Putman, Williamston senior.

Women’s Soccer

•This and That: The MIAA has announced their all-league teams. The Britons have five representatives on the teams.

All-MIAA first team:

Goalkeeper Caitlin Bowman, Augusta first-year.

Midfielder Ashley Lynch, Farmington senior.

Forward Allison Oatley, Ann Arbor first-year.

All-MIAA second team:

Defender Chelsea Gray, Midland first-year.

Defender Gretchen Fuchs, Jackson senior .

Men’s Cross Country

•Last Week: 14th of 31 teams at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional @ Hanover College

•This and That: With the MIAA season behind them, the Albion College men’s cross country team went into Hanover, Ind. for the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Championship. Noah Lopez, Dearborn senior, turned in his best race of the season. Lopez finished 37th out of the field with a time of 26 minutes and 50 seconds, just seven tenths of a second from all-regional honors. Ben Ruthruff, Olivet sophomore, finished 65th and Eric Backman, Grosse Pointe Farms junior, finished 93rd to become the only Britons inside of the top 100. Doug Bosin, Bloomfield Hills sophomore, and Adam Darany, Dearborn senior, rounded out the Britons’ top five.

Women’s Cross Country

•Last Week: 16th of 31 teams at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional @ Hanover College

•This and That: The women’s cross country team was in Hanover, Ind. for the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Championship last weekend. Shauna Paradine, Schoolcraft junior, ran one of her best races at regionals, finishing with a time of 24:19, good for 48th. The women ended their season in a tight pack. Alyson Howe, Plainwell senior, finished her collegiate career with a time of 24:53. Megan Fitzpatrick, Marshall junior, finished 90th with a time of 25:08. Carrie Oleszkowicz, Plymouth junior, and Lauren Paul, Whitmore Lake senior, rounded out the Britons’ top five.

Hunt Seat

•Last Week: 8th of 15 teams @ University of Findlay

•This and That: Albion had their hands full as they headed to Findlay to take on Region 3 powerhouse, University of Findlay. Merrill Howland, Grand Rapids sophomore, led the team with a first place finish in the novice flat. Jessica Smith, Grand Rapids junior, took second in open fences. Kendra Edwards, Watervliet first-year, placed second in walk-trot-canter. Alex Goss, Dexter sophomore, took third in novice fences. Emily Amidon, Portage first-year, and Katherine Ross, Grosse Pointe Park first-year, took third for the Britons.

Men’s Swimming and Diving

•Last Week: Albion 162, Alma 55.

•This Week: Sat - @ Olivet

•This and That: The Britons came up big last week, taking their first dual meet victory over Alma. Paul Krone, Cincinnati, Ohio sophomore, won three events for the Britons. Krone earned first place in the 500 and 1000 freestyle races and also won the 100 breaststroke. Ryan Gunderson, Grosse Pointe sophomore, took both the 50-yard and 100-yard sprint freestyle. Chase Bacon, Novelty, Ohio senior, took victories in the 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle. Ty Lattimore, Grosse Pointe Farms first-year, ruled the diving board with wins in the 1 and 3 meter dives. Chris Blunden, Grosse Pointe Shores sophomore, took second place in the 50 and 100 freestyle sprints.

Women’s Swimming and Diving

•Last Week: Albion 162, Alma 71.

•This Week: Sat. - @ Olivet

•This and That: The women’s diving team won their first dual meet against Alma last week. Lindsay Brown, Commerce Township senior, won both diving competitions for the Britons. Rachel Doherty, Beverly Hills senior, won both the 200 and 500 freestyle events. Danielle Hurst, Marshall first-year, won the 50-yard freestyle and 100 yard butterfly. The women also had success in their relays, taking first and third in the 400 yard medley relay. Amy Lindman, Canton senior; Lisa Colville, DeWitt senior; Brittnay Weise, Oakland Township sophomore; and Dana Bringham, Glenview, Ill. first-year, took first place in the 400 yard medley relay.

Hockey Club

•Last Week: Lake Superior St. 13, Albion 7; Lansing Community College 8, Albion 0.

•This Week: Fri. - Lawrence Tech, Sat. - @ Saginaw Valley State.

•This and That: The hockey club had a tough week against some experienced hockey programs. Paul Lipon, Brighton first-year, continues to be a pleasant surprise for the Britons. Lipon leads all scorers with 13 points on 10 goals and three assists. Joe Ramah, Delta senior, is second on the team with 12 points on five goals and seven assists. Kyle Steward, Ann Arbor junior, leads the Britons with 64 saves.
