2005 Record: 3rd in the MIAA. 10-4 league, 20-6 overall.

Key Returnees:

Zak Silas (Sr., Flushing): An all-MIAA first team selection, Silas was second on the team in points last season with 313.

Evan Way (Sr., East Lansing): Selected as all-MIAA coaches’ honorable mention, Way averaged eight rebounds per game last season.

Jim Cash (Jr., Northville): Junior swing man who is a consistent three-point threat.

Words from the Coaches: "Our expectations this year are like other years: to play hard, play smart, play together to reach our potential on and off the court. We also expect to compete for our league championship as we have for the past several years." – Mike Turner, 33 year head coach.

Outlook: Coming into the season ranked third in a preseason poll, the Britons basketball team looks to silence its critics early and often. Having finished third in the 2005-2006 season, the Britons look to take steps to overcome conference foes Calvin and Hope. Both teams finished ahead of Albion last year, and both teams enter the season ranked higher than the Britons in the pre-season polls. To coach Mike Turner, the previous records are nothing to dwell on, merely a motivational tool.

"I hope that our past success does not put extra stress on the guys, but rather help to motivate to achieve their full potential as individuals and as a team," Turner said.

The Britons’ primary concern will be replacing the post presence of Brandon Crawford, ’06, who led the Britons in scoring and rebounding with an average of 22 points and 11 boards a game. Evan Way, East Lansing senior, is a returning starter and looks to lead the Britons in the post. Drew Yancy, Okemos sophomore, figures to put in more minutes this season. Yancy averaged three points a game as a freshman, numbers which only look to improve for the six-foot-eight inch forward.

Zak Silas, Flushing senior, is another returning starter for the Britons. Silas figures to control the ball for the Britons this season. Silas had 62 assists for the Britons last year, but figures to collect even more as the offense looks to flow through its returning starters.

"Many players are playing hard and well now," Turner said. "We expect to be a strong defensive team, a smart team, a good shooting team and a team with good chemistry. We will need to make rebounding a focus."

Key Games: The Britons begin their season Saturday at home against Rochester. Albion will take on Hope Jan. 10 on the road and Feb. 3 at home. The Britons will take on defending champion and projected league leader Calvin Jan. 20 on the road and Feb. 14 at home.
