As in years past, the Student Volunteer Bureau and Alpha Phi Omega sponsored “Halloween in the Halls” at Albion College Oct. 28. During this trick-or-treating event, children from the city of Albion were escorted to buildings around campus, collecting candy from Albion students, admiring the Halloween decorations and getting a scare at haunted houses.
“This year some changes were made to make the trick-or-treating faster and safer for the kids,” said Scott Kortlandt, Novi junior and event coordinator.
Instead of decorating each individual hallway in the residence halls, students decorated only the main lobbies in each building.
Beginning at 4 p.m., approximately 190 children made their way from the Kellogg Center to Seaton Hall, Twin Towers, Fiske Hall and finally Wesley Hall—with some making a side stop at the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity for its haunted house. Dressed as everything from witches to cartoon characters to princesses, the kids seemed to enjoy every minute of the journey and every piece of candy they received.
“This is such a great thing that the college does for these children,” said one Albion resident. “We come every year and my kids always have a great time.”
