President Mitchell deserves his salary

To The Pleiad editors:

In response to President Mitchell’s salary base (“The bucks behind…” Nov. 12), please make a note that President Mitchell and wife, Becky, have made significant contributions to Albion College out of their own pocket. While his salary may be third in the state, I am quite certain it is the highest giving from a president of a college. Doesn’t that say something extremely significant about his values, beliefs and enthusiasm in the college? I certainly believe so.

As a member of the Albion College Board of Trustees, recent graduate position, I know the president is evaluated and, based on his marks, receives salary increases. If it is not clear what President Mitchell has done and is doing for this college, I urge you to visit any other college campus and ask any student if they even know the name of their president. Our president is doing a terrific job and should be compensated accordingly.
