As We See It: Seminar sensibility
By Pleiad Staff
Albion College's First-Year Experience was a pilot program this year, and it expanded on the freshman seminar courses that were previously available.
While the program has been met with mixed reviews, most freshmen don't seem to appreciate the value of this program. Often they didn't attend the optional Thursday-morning courses due to early meeting times.
But by not attending these programs, it makes it difficult for these students to objectively say if they're worthwhile or not.
We at the Pleiad applaud the effort of the college to try to enrich the freshman experience, but feel saddened that more people didn't take advantage of the opportunity. Among the staff, freshman seminar courses were some of our favorite academic courses at Albion, and would have been even better with the new first-year experiences.
We hope that in the future more freshmen will recognize the value of this program and take advantage of this opportunity. As the program continues to expand, so will the truth in our slogan, "Liberal Arts at Work."
