Cable conundrum
Letter to the Editor

I really don’t understand why the college can’t just add a channel instead of having to replace a channel. I think it’s ridiculous. I know my fellow students and I are sick of using this phrase, but “we spend almost $26,000 per year to go here... the least they could do is...” give us additional channels to watch rather than replacing channels. Two years ago we went through the same thing when the college decided to replace Much Music. Granted, that channel wasn’t all that great, but I know some people who watched it regularly. I think the college, and whoever is in charge of making this decision, should consider this.

This campus is very small (in case you hadn’t noticed). Sometimes there is nothing else to do but watch TV. I’m not going to go off about how this college doesn’t provide events for us - because that’s not their responsibility - they already do more than they should be expected to. They do a really good job bringing fun events here. However, one thing they could do is offer us a wider selection of TV stations to watch. The events that they plan don’t appeal to everyone, and for those people who aren’t interested, there aren’t many choices. Liberal Arts at Play is a great idea, and I like what it is offering. My suggestion is that the college use some of the LAAP funds for the adding of more channels. Making us choose between MSNBC, Cartoon Network, TNN, and Family Channel will make many students unhappy when one of them is canceled for these new channels.

One more thing: why can’t SCOLA and channel 35 be canceled? How many people watch them compared to MSNBC, TNN, Cartoon Network, and Family Channel? If you can’t add channels, then the students should be able to chose which channels are replaced. And that’s not fair if you don’t let them chose from all of the channels, is it? Maybe I’m just overly stressed from this semester, but this is aggravating the daylights out of me. I know that it is bothering others as well.

Am I just crazy, or does anyone else think it’s time to add rather than replace?
