College's Special Collections Awarded NEH Preservation Assistance Grant

libraryarchives1.jpgAlbion College's archives looks to the future, thanks to the recent award of a 2009 Preservation Assistance Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The $6,000 award will underwrite a preservation survey of the College libraries' special collections, which include the College archives and rare books collection, along with the archives of the West Michigan Conference of the United Methodist Church. Qualified Veterans Receive Free Tuition at Albion College Under The New G.I. Bill

Military veterans looking for a superior education after completing their tour of duty now can turn to Albion College, where qualified veterans receive free tuition, monthly housing allowances, and textbook stipends under the new GI Bill. "We have been working hard to make college affordable for everyone in these tough economic times, and we're pleased to be able assist our veterans, who have unselfishly given to their country," said Doug Kellar, vice president for enrollment.

State Farm, Community Foundation Offer Grants to College/Community 'Maymester' Program

Albion State Farm Insurance agent Mark Putvin, visiting instructor Kevin Zupin, Shurmur Institute coordinator Nikki Pavona, '07, Education department acting chair Kyle Shanton, and Albion Community Foundation director Elizabeth Schultheiss gathered to celebrate $25,000 in grants made to a Teacher Education Program/Albion Public Schools collaboration project.
An innovative learning experience for Michigan's future teachers and local children foresees a bright future, thanks to major underwriting grants from State Farm Insurance Companies Foundation and the Albion Community Foundation. Albion College's Fritz Shurmur Education Institute will receive a total of $25,000 from the two foundations to help underwrite its Albion Public Schools/ Albion College Teacher Education Program/Shurmur Education Institute Collaboration Project.
