By Jake Weber
ALBION, Mich. — Albion College's Japanese language program
invites the community to an entertaining and educational peek into
contemporary Japanese culture. Their "Mega Culture" activity
takes places Thursday, April 10, beginning at 7 p.m. in the College's
International House.
The event will include food tasting and traditional Japanese
games. An open tournament of jan ken (Japanese version of
rock-paper-scissors) will offer prizes. Students will also
compete in ninin baori, a game which pits a blindfolded person against
a handcuffed person in skill tests such as writing or eating.
"This game is a lot of fun to watch, said Japanese instructor Chieko
Shitara.
Shitara notes that Albion has been growing its Japanese studies
offerings over the past few years, and the International house now
includes a Japanese section. "This is an opportunity for us to
share some fun things about Japan," she explained.
This event is free and open to the public, and is sponsored by the
College's Modern Languages and Cultures department. For more
information, contact Shitara at 517/629-0408 or
