Lucas Florin performs his junior oboe recital, Friday, November 13, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. in Goodrich Chapel.
Florin will perform Ravel’s "Pavane Pour Une Infante Defunte," Telemann’s Sonate No. 4 for Two Oboes, Aaron Copland’s "Quiet City" and Marcello’s Oboe Concerto in C minor. He will be accompanied by pianist David Gilliland.
“Exactly two years ago, November 13th, 2007, I began the long journey to become an oboist,” Florin said, “For this recital I have chosen four pieces which are all drastically different and have different qualities. Each was composed in different eras, using different styles and techniques of the oboe and English horn.”
According to Florin, Copland’s "Quiet City" captures the beauty of the English Horn, as well as a majestic trumpet solo, which will be performed by junior Lauren Stout. Between the two soloists there is a beautiful dialogue that occurs throughout the piece. In the Telemann double sonate, the dynamic of two oboes unaccompanied is highlighted. Florin performs the Telemann with professional oboist Rebecca Van de Ven, an adjunct instructor at Albion College.
A junior music performance major from St. Clair Shores, Florin is involved in many musical organizations on Albion College’s campus. A member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, a men’s music fraternity, he also performs in the Albion College Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Woodwind Quintet, and is in the British Eighth Marching Band Color Guard.
This performance is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Albion College Music department at 517/629-0481 or
