Health Insurance

Scope

Full-time faculty and administrative employees.

Policy

Albion College provides health, dental, life, accidental death, dismemberment and loss of sight insurance that is effective on the employee's first day at work.

Employees will be given the option to choose a comprehensive major medical and dental or a health maintenance organization (HMO) and dental package. The current comprehensive major medical plan is offered through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM). The HMO plan is currently offered through Blue Care Network of Southwest Michigan and Delta Dental.

The College will pay the single subscriber premium of the traditional carrier or contribute the same amount of such coverage toward the premium contribution for the HMO package.

Eligible dependents may be covered for health and dental insurance at the employee's expense, and premiums are paid through a monthly payroll deduction or reduction plan.

Procedure

At time of hire, it is necessary for the employee to complete an application form for health, dental and life insurance, available through the Human Resources Office.

The Human Resources Office should be promptly notified of any changes in employee status, dependent coverage and/or change in beneficiary.
