Alumni in the News: Moilanen, '09; White-Thomas, '93
Dan Moilanen, '09, was featured in NPR Michigan Radio's State of Opportunity series this week for spearheading the re-opening of an all-ages, nonprofit music club known as Flint Local 432. The "substance-free music venue and community-oriented organization" had impacted Moilanen as a suburban teen; today, he's the club manager and making deep connections in the Flint community.
Moilanen, a political science and philosophy double major and Ford Institute member, had been working for Apple in Austin, Texas, when he returned to Michigan after his mother became ill. The move back home soon turned into something more -- listen to the feature on Michigan Radio.
Shelley White-Thomas, '93, was named a Michigan Rising Star for the second straight year by Super Lawyers, a Thomson Reuters "ratings service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement."
The White-Thomas Law Firm, based in Sault Ste. Marie, specializes in elder law and wills, trusts, and estate planning throughout Michigan.
