Briton Stock Seat Riders Maintain Third Place in Region (October 17, 2015)
The Cheff Therapeutic Riding Center in Augusta, Mich. played host to ten stock seat teams from IHSA Zone 6, Region 4 on October 17, and the Albion Britons came away with two more third place team finishes to maintain their third place standing in the region.
Senior Camille Sawicki (Jenison/Jenison) continued the wave of success she built in the first competition of the season when she won in the intermediate division and pointed up into intermediate II, also qualifying her for regionals. Also helping the Britons to their strong finish was open rider Brooke Viele (Midland/H.H. Dow) who finished as the reserve high point rider in the morning show.
Other intermediate division wins came from sophomores Elliot Brinker (Livonia/Adlai E. Stevenson) in intermediate I and Jourdan Tonti (Livonia/Livonia Churchill) in intermediate II.
The alumni division also saw strong performances from Katie Petchell ’13 (Pinckney/Pinckney Community) and Megan McNeil ’15 (Onondaga/Jackson Christian), who each won a section of alumni reining. McNeil was also victorious in alumni horsemanship during the morning show.
Next up for the Briton stock seat team is a double-header hosted by Grand Valley State University on November 21.
Briton Dressage Starts Season Strong (October 17-18, 2015)
Unfazed by windy conditions, a young Briton dressage team started the season with a second place finish on the first day of the double-header show hosted by Michigan State University. The second half of the show saw the team finish fifth of the nine teams present.
With six freshman riders and two seniors in the mix, the team didn’t let inexperience with the intercollegiate format deter them. Freshman Kenzie Bush (St. Clair/Marysville) drew Albion College’s own Rockefeller for her Lower Training class on Saturday and came away with the win. She later notched a third place finish in the division in the Sunday half of the show.
Freshman Skyler Campbell (Grand Rapids/Caledonia) also made a strong first showing with a third place finish at Introductory level on Sunday.
Team co-captains Emma Stapley (Rockford/Rockford) and Paige Beliveau (West Newbury, Mass./St. Thomas Aquinas) said, “We can’t believe how lucky we are to be captains of such an amazing group of riders! We have a very young team, but everyone had incredibly great attitudes all weekend and worked really hard to make the show successful and fun for everyone.”
The Briton dressage team travels to the University of Findlay (Ohio) for their next meet on October 31.
