The Albion College Music Department welcomes guest violinist Shigetoshi Yamada in recital on Saturday, January 25 at 4:00 PM in Goodrich Chapel. Yamada, accompanied by pianist Mary Drews, will perform a program tiled “Compositions and Arrangements by Fritz Kreisler” containing arrangements of J.S. Bach, Paganini, and several of Kreisler’s own works
Yamada has studied the development of violin technique from the baroque period to modern times, and Kreisler’s technique in particular. Yamada teaches Kreisler violin choir classes at The Music Institute of Chicago, and has recently been giving many recitals featuring Kreisler’s music and arrangements.
Mary Drews is a sought-after collaborative pianist, chamber musician, and teacher. She has been the official pianist of numerous international violin competitions, and she often collaborates with instrumentalists and vocalists alike. She has been on the faculty of the Music Institute of Chicago since 2001, and in 2008 received the Steinway Teacher Grant.
