At Umbrella House(1107 E. Cass St.) Korean Black Day is a holiday to celebrate singleness. Its predecessors on the Korean calendar are Valentine’s Day (Feb.14) and White Day (March 14). On Valentine’s Day in Korea, gentlemen receive love gifts, and on White Day ladies receive love gifts. On black day those who didn’t receive a gift on the previous days go out with friends and eat jajangmyeon (자장면) a black bean Korean- Chinese noodle dish from Incheon. The hope is that singles may be able to identify other singles and possibly meet someone special. Some singles also wear black clothes as well to identify themselves. Albion College will celebrate this holiday for singles with an campus wide invitation to eat jajangmyeon together and enjoy some Korean Music at the new Umbrella house.
