The first stock seat show of the season was hosted by Saginaw Valley State University at the Midland County Fairgrounds on October 5, 2013. The region had ten different teams present to compete for coveted IHSA points at the double-header show. Albion College rode away with reserve high point team titles for both shows.
Junior Morgan Carey (Hemlock/Saint Charles Community) competed for the first time in the open/reining division. Carey won first place in her open class and third place in her reining class, which sealed her reserve high point rider award for the morning show. She kept up the momentum winning first place in her open class in the afternoon show.
One Albion rider, senior Katie Heim (Zionsville, IN/Zionsville Community), managed to point up from intermediate II into the advanced division by winning her class, which qualifies her to compete at the IHSA Regional Championships later in the season.
The walk-trot division was well represented by Briton riders as well. Sophomore Kaitlyn Anderson (Douglas/Saugatuck) and freshman Jordan McGinn (Royal Oak/Shrine) won first place in their classes, and sophomore Camille Sawicki (Jenison/Jenison) won second place in hers.
Captain Hannah Pankratz (Bad Axe/Bad Axe) says she is very excited about the quality of the team’s walk-trot riders this year. “It was a great start to the show season year,” says Pankratz.
