Lawrence Schook graduated from Albion College in 1973. He continued his studies earning his Master’s and Ph.D from Wayne State University, then completed his postdoctoral training at the Institute for Clinical Immunology in Switzerland, and at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He currently serves as Vice President for Research, Senior Officer and Professor of Animal Sciences at the University of Illinois, serves on the Board of Governors for the Argonne and Fermi National Laboratories, and the National Academies of Science Institute for Laboratory Animal Research.
In addition to his successful academic studies, Mr. Schook has held several faculty positions in a number of institutions. In his current position at the University of Illinois, Mr. Schook is responsible for $1B in external research funding, and is recognized internationally in comparative genomics to further understanding of genetic diseases. He has also held appointments in bioengineering, nutritional sciences, and pathology. Mr. Schook has written over 200 published documents and edited six books.
His Albion College involvement includes: Men's Basketball, Sigma Nu, Student Senate, Admissions Volunteer, Past Class Agent, DAA Winner, 1997 Externship Mentor, Mentor Program Volunteer and National Volunteer Network.
Mr. Schook and his wife, Frances, reside in Champagne, IL. They have three grown children, Karl, Paul and Carolyn, and two grandchildren.
