Albion College’s stock seat team hosted their home show on October 18, and it turned out to be a day of firsts! For the first time, the home show was held at coach Denise Webber’s farm, Nottawa Paint Horses, as the Held Center is currently undergoing construction on its indoor arena. The Albion team won first place overall (out of 10 teams total) at both shows of the double-header, also becoming the first time the Brits won both the AM and the PM shows on home turf.
Senior Morgan Carey (Hemlock/Saint Charles Community) led the team with her winning ride in Reining, achieving first place and the high point rider award for the AM show. Sophomore Kristine Mussell (Midland/H.H. Dow) took home two first places in Novice, and co-captain Allison Voorhess (Mount Clemons/Lutheran North) won first place in Novice.
Other big wins came from first year riders Brooke Viele (Midland/H.H. Dow) and Taylor Sandberg (Spring Lake/Spring Lake) in Advanced and Intermediate II respectively.
The gracious host and coach Denise Webber was thrilled with how the team did and says she is very proud to be their coach. “Two wins and one high point rider means three out of four possible big ribbons went home with Albion,” she says. “Go Albion!”
