The maiden competition of the season was a successful double-header for the Albion stock seat riders who competed on October 4 at Saginaw Valley State University. They faced nine teams from other schools and came away with a champion high point and a third place.
Albion riders generated enough points in the first show to end up as the champion high point team. Nearly every division was led by an Albion rider, including Taylor Sandberg (Spring Lake/Spring Lake) and Danielle Townsend (Springport/Springport) who won first places in their Intermediate II classes. Co-captain Allison Voorhess (Mount Clemons/Lutheran North) followed suit with a win in Novice along with other co-captain Elle Root (Alpena/Alpena) who picked up second place in Advanced. Freshman Brooke Viele (Midland/H.H. Dow) also won a second in Advanced as did senior Morgan Carey (Hemlock/Saint Charles Community) in the Open/Reining division.
As the afternoon show wrapped up, the Albion team ended up in third place overall. Notable places include senior Megan McNeil’s (Ononadaga/Jackson Christian) overall reserve high point ride and first place in Open/Reining. Second place finishers included Joy Davis (Flint/Kearsley) in Advanced, Voorhess in Novice, Townsend in Intermediate II, and freshman Stancey Thompson (Oberlin, Ohio/Oberlin) in Walk/Trot.
