Audition Information
Spring 2010
The
Albion College Symphonic Band
will hold auditions for the 2010 season on Monday through Wednesday, November 16th - 18th (Times to be posted)
for all woodwind, brass, and percussion
players interested in participated in the Albion College Symphonic Band.
An audition sign-up sheet will be posted
downstairs in Goodrich Chapel next to the to Band Manager's Office one week
prior to the auditions (November 9th).
Audition materials are available through the
appropriate links below. If you are having difficulty downloading and/or
printing & reading
the files, please contact Dr. McIlhagga
(smcilhagga@albion.edu) with
your KC Box Number (or address) and instrument, and he will mail the appropriate
audition materials to you.
The Symphonic Band officially begins its season on
Wednesday, January 20th at 5:10pm in Goodrich Chapel.
Please note that if you intend to participate in
the Symphonic Band you are expected to attend all rehearsals and
performances - no exceptions. As you make your decision on this
ensemble, consider the Master Schedule before committing.
About the Audition Materials & Process
If you are interested in participating in the
Symphonic Band, you must audition. Auditions are primarily for chair placement.
Everyone must audition.
*One exception - we will
unfortunately only be able to accept a limited number of percussionists
based on the needs of the ensemble. Those not accepted are strongly
encouraged to participate in the Albion College Percussion Ensemble.
Audition materials for woodwind, brass, and percussion players will
consist of the excerpt linked below.
2010 Audition Excerpt - Winds, Brass,
& Percussion
All of the audition excerpts are from Finale, from
Kalinnikov's Symphony No. 1 in G-minor transcribed for Symphonic
Band by Glenn Cliffe Banium. There are no selected sections - you are
responsible for any of the music contained on the pages.
NOTE: Euphonium parts are in bass clef. If treble
clef is required, please contact director.
Chair Placement & Chamber Wind Ensemble
All chair placements are permanent. Parts
will be rotated only in the trumpet and percussion sections.
The top 2-3 musicians from each section will also be a
part of the chamber wind ensemble experience. This experience will
involve one or two selected works on each concert designed to showcase
those players.
