Albion College Symphonic Band

Return to ensembles
The Albion College Symphonic Band, under the direction
of Dr. Samuel McIlhagga, is a 70-member ensemble comprised of
compliments of woodwinds, brass, and percussion. Each spring the
Symphonic Band performs two to three concerts in
Albion College's Goodrich Chapel that feature music from the 16th to the
21st century. Recent performances have included such works as John
Williams/Donald Hunsberger Star Wars Trilogy, Percy
Grainger's Lincolnshire Posy, Eric Whitacre's Cloudburst
and Godzilla Eats Las Vegas, as well as chamber works by Dukas, Gabrieli,
Persichetti, and Jacobs.
Rehearsals occur every Monday and Wednesday
from 5:10 - 6:30pm and Friday from 5:10-6:00pm. The Symphonic Band is
open to all students regardless of major (75-80% of the ensemble is made up
of non-music majors). Auditions are traditionally held toward the end of
the fall semester and are designed for chair placement.
