Dr. David Abbott - Associate Professor

David Abbott joined Albion College as Associate
Professor of Piano in the Fall of 2005. He returned to the United States
after residing for ten years in Switzerland where he was active both as
soloist, collaborative artist and teacher. Dr. Abbott was on the faculty
of the Zuerich Conservatory of Music where he taught both piano and
chamber music. Previous positions included the Schaffausen Conservatory
of Music (Switzerland), the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (co-chair of
piano), and the Idyllwild School of the Arts in California.
Dr. Abbott taught summer courses in piano and chamber
music for over fifteen years at the Rocky Ridge Music Center in Estes
Park, Colorado. In 2003, he founded the Con Brio Music Festival in
Blonay, Switzerland and returns there each summer to direct courses in
piano and chamber music. Dr. Abbott was a triple prize-winner in the
International Music Competition in Geneva Switzerland. He is
passionately interested in historical performance practice and has
worked with renowned fortepianist Malcolm Bilson. His current project is
a recording of eighteenth and nineteenth century piano works performed
on both modern and historical keyboard instruments. |
