Chance And The I Ching

As our first experiment of the year, Chance students explored the Chinese divination ritual found in the I Ching, or Book of Changes,  Since the traditional yarrow stalks are in short supply in Albion, Michigan in 2008, we used decks of playing cards.  This exercise involves a lot of counting and dividing by 4, and at the end of it all, you wind up with a hexagram that supposedly has deep significance to the question that led you to seek guidance.  The connection to Chance?  At each stage of the ritual, you separate a pack of cards, randomly, into two piles.  More information on the I Ching can be found here.
