| Prof. Dom. George Temple, FRS, CBE, former Sedleian Professor of Natural Philosophy at Oxford died in 1992 at the age of 90. His life spanned nearly the entire twentieth century. He played an influential part in linking the disciplines of mathematics and physics for 50 years before retiring to the Isle of Wight as a monk of Quarr Abbey.
