Welcome!
My name is Darren E. Mason and I am an assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Albion College, as well as an adjunct professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Michigan State University. Consequently, I teach a variety of courses during the calendar year, ranging from functions to multivariable calculus to mathematical modeling to engineering dynamics. (whew!!) To learn more, check out the teaching section of this website.
In between teaching, I also try to stay active in research. My general area of interest is applied mathematics and its relationship to engineering mechanics. Current work includes existence theory in nonlinear elasticity and optimal microstructural design of high-tech materials. For more information, check out the research section of this website.
I also help to administer a study abroad program in Russia. This opportunity allows students to take courses in pre-engineering, statistics, and Russian language and culture during the summer months (mid May to late June). To learn more about this exciting opportunity, visit the "Russia Program" section of the web site.
To learn more about what I do in my time off ("time off"?? what is that??), feel free to investigate the small section about boring old me.
