THE WENDELL B. WILL FACULTY ROOM

Schedule of Hours

  • The Wendell B. Will Faculty Room is open from 9 am - 5 pm daily, Monday through Friday, except when the college is in academic recess.

  • The Wendell B. Will Faculty Room is closed after 5 pm weekdays and on weekends.

Use of the Room

  • The Wendell B. Will Room is available for the use of the Albion College faculty, faculty emeriti, and other designated members of the academic community (e.g. academic program directors, librarians and key administrators), and their invited guests only.

  • Faculty may use the room during the evening, weekend, and vacation hours, when the library is open by prior arrangement with the Library Office.

  • The room can be reserved for group activities for up to two hours. Between 9 am and 5 pm, the room can be reserved only for events sponsored by a faculty member or department and which are open to the entire community.  During hours that the room is closed, if the library is open, it can be scheduled for use by the faculty members and departments, and by student groups for official functions.  Only those student organizations and honoraries recognized by Campus Programs and Organizations as being academic mission organizations, will be permitted to use this room.  A statement of responsibility will be signed by a recognized officer of the student organization at the time the room is booked.  Faculty committees are not permitted to reserve the room for their meetings.  The room can be reserved for retirement celebrations only when the retiree is a faculty member.  It is inappropriate for a faculty member to reserve the room on behalf of an individual or group who would not be permitted to reserve the room independently.  The room may be reserved through the Library Administrative Office.  The Library Advisory Committee determines eligibility for use of the room.

  • The Wendell B. Will Faculty Room is not to be used as a classroom, however, faculty may invite student guests.

  • The room will seat a maximum of 75 people for an event; 50 - 60 people is a comfortable amount when moving around in the room.

Facilities and Services

  • Application forms for use of the room, rules and facilities descriptions are available from the Library Administration Office or in the room.

  • Requests for scheduling the room must be turned into the Library Administrative Office at least two weeks in advance of date needed. Because of heavy demand, November and April requests should be made at least two months in advance.

  • Rules for using facilities:

  • Faculty and their guests may use the kitchen.  No drinks may be taken out of the room.

  • Alcoholic beverages may not be served in the Wendell B. Will Faculty Room.

  • Tablecloths are available from Dining & Hospitality and must be used on the large conference table when serving food or beverages.

  • All chairs around the conference table should be put back around the table.

  • Candles may not be used.

  • There is a stove, refrigerator and small microwave available.  These must be cleaned up after use.  All appliances must be turned off before leaving the room.

  • There is a punch bowl and ladle available.  It must be washed after using.

  • Catering must be done by the reserving party through Dining Services at ext. 0365.

  • The room should be picked up as much as possible after use.  Empty containers and utensils should be disposed of or cleaned.  Food or crumbs on carpet, etc. should be cleaned as much as possible after use.  There is a vacuum cleaner in the kitchen for this purpose.  All trash and garbage should be placed in bags, tied and put outside of rear door to Wendell Will Room behind the conference table.  Please be sure all empty cups, napkins and coasters are disposed of.

  • Please keep doors to room closed during events in order not to disturb others using the library for reading and study.

  • Books and periodicals are placed in the room for use by faculty.  Please do not remove these from the room without permission of the Library Office.  Bookcases are locked.  The items on display are placed there for display only.  Anyone wishing to examine an item on display in the bookcases must request permission from the Library Office.

  • When you leave, make sure all windows are closed, all appliances are turned off, lights are turned off, and all doors are locked.

  • These guidelines for the use of the Wendell B. Will Faculty Room are based on an honor system.  It is not the function of the library staff to police the room or admonish faculty members who fail to abide by the guidelines. The party reserving the room will be held responsible for any damage occurring during their use of the room.  Any and all damage should be reported immediately to the Library Office.
