The primary objectives of Albion College
Special Collections are to: 1) collect, preserve and make available
records, manuscripts, artifacts and ephemera that accurately document
the history of Albion College and the West Michigan Conference of the
United Methodist Church; 2) document, in the same fashion, the lives of those who have touched and
forever changed these institutions; and 3) collect and make available for
research rare and unique resources that support the curriculum and
academic endeavors of Albion College faculty, staff and students. No special credentials or permissions are necessary to use our materials. Our collections are available for research by the Albion College community, members of the West Michigan Conference of the United Methodist Church, and the general public. We do require that all researchers schedule an appointment for their visit so that we may prepare accordingly. |
L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900) is heralded as the first classic American fairytale. Through the years it has undergone serialization, derivation, censorship, and exhibition. Included in this exhibit are a number of the Baum and Ruth Plumly Thompson volumes from the Oz series, books about Baum and Oz, examples of derivative Oz works, and memorabilia from the 1939 Wizard of Oz film featuring Judy Garland, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year.
The exhibit is located on Mudd Level 3, outside of Special Collections,
and will continue through the end of the spring semester. Just follow
the yellow brick road to Mudd Level 3!
