Glenn Perusek attended Kent State University (BA, summa cum laude, 1980) and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. At the University of Chicago (AM, 1982; PhD, 1988), Perusek held Charles Merriam Fellowships, and won the Patricia Lynn Baker Prize. Perusek joined the faculty of Albion College in 1988, and held a Charles Phelps Taft Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Cincinnati in 1989-1990. He was visiting scholar at the University of Michigan, 1995-6.

In 2002 he was named Royal G. Hall Professor of the Social Sciences at Albion College. He was elected to the editorial board of New Politics in 2004. Perusek teaches courses on the history of political thought, political sociology and political economy.

His publications have appeared in such journals as POROI; International Journal of Politics, Culture and Society; New Politics; Labor Studies Journal; Journal of Labor Research; and the International Migration Review. Books include Trade Union Politics: American Unions and Economic Change, 1960s-1990s, co-edited with Kent Worcester (Atlantic Highlands, NJ: Humanities Press, 1995) and Depth of Field:  Stanley Kubrick, Film and the Uses of History, co-edited with Geoffrey Cocks and James Diedrick (Madison:  University of Wisconsin Press, 2006).

Series I: Detroit  This series consists of the subseries: History, Labor, Race, Race and Labor, & Urban League. 

Subseries: History
This subseries deals with general information on Detroit – topics not covered by the other subseries, this includes newspaper clippings and other historically relevant documents.

Subseries: Labor

This subseries contains documents that did not fit in the labor series because they dealt with employment within the city of Detroit and were not local union related. 

 

Subseries: Race

This subseries contains both primary and secondary sources dealing with the issue of race in the metro-Detroit area.

 

Subseries: Race and Labor

This subseries contains articles on the study of race and labor in Detroit and articles from the city itself.

 

Subseries: Urban League 

This subseries contains photocopies of reports from records of the Detroit Urban League, 1918-1941.

 

Series II: Labor  This series consists of the subseries: Ford, Organization, Publications, & UAW.

Subseries: Ford
This subseries contains both primary and secondary sources on the Ford Motor Company’s labor dealings, including academic studies, newspaper articles, and copies of historical reports from the Ford Company.

Subseries: Organization
This subseries contains materials dealing with organizational attempts of the U.S. labor force, except for the efforts of the United Auto Workers.

Subseries: Publications
This subseries contains a variety of American and British labor and feminist publications (including those of the UAW).

Subseries: UAW
This subseries contains current studies and newspaper articles, dealing with the efforts of United Auto Workers and their specific locals.

Series III: Political and Social Sciences  This series contains political science and other social science studies that are relevant to the study of race and/or labor relations. 

Series IV: Race  This series consists of the subseries: History and Law.

Subseries: History
This subseries contains newspaper articles and historical studies including both specific cases and wider examinations of race relations and tensions.

Subseries: Law
This subseries contains newspaper articles on and studies of specific court cases that involved race or racial relations as a predominant factor.

Series V: Statistics  This series contains of multitude of statistics, ranging from general census numbers to specific labor strike figures, which are poignant to the support of the research within the other series.

Series VI: Proposals  This series contains several of Dr. Perusek’s draft documents and his final paper based on the research contained within the collection.

Series VII: Sources  This series contains copies of bibliographies used to find additional resources, as well as lists of the sources for material found in the rest of the collection.

Series VIII: Miscellaneous  This series contains research notes and rough drafts that were works in progress or that lacked a proper place within the other series.
