Albion College Wedgwood Plates

Between the years 1939 and 1951, Wedgwood produced 3 different views of Albion College buildings for use on 10" plates.  The 3 buildings pictured on the plates were the Observatory, Robinson Hall, and Susannah Wesley Hall.  The views were adapted from photographs and drawings sent to the Wedgwood engraving department, who interpreted them in deep purple print.  The series of plates were sponsored by Jones, McDuffee, and Stratton, sole importers of Wedgwood, in Boston.

The original cost of the plates appears to be somewhere between $12-15.00 per dozen, or $1.50 per plate.  The current value of the plates appears to be around $30 each. The College originally intended to order 25 dozen of the "first editions."  An alumnus recently contacted the Archives claiming to have a "second edition" of the plates, but the Wedgwood archives could locate no documentation to support this.
