Kenneth J. Hollinshead to Mrs. Edna N. Toncray - October 24, 1938

Dear Edna:

I am glad you liked the letter and since you have made no suggestions about change other than price I think we will go ahead with it.  I appreciate what you say about the $12.00 plates selling more readily than the $15.00 ones, but Yale gets $18.00 for the same thing and other schools get between $15.00 and $18.00 for similar plates.  I think if people really want a set the difference in price won't stop them.  We might make it $14.00 a dozen, but the matter of price can be settled a little later so we won't commit ourselves definitely on that point just yet.

Now regarding different pictures on the plates, eventually we will have them, but we can't do it all at once I am afraid without a great deal of expense.  If people are only going to buy individual plates they will have to wait a while.  Most colleges add to their plates from year to year and then folks who already have a set of one kind can trade with folks who have sets of another kind.  We haven't 12 buildings worth reproducing now, but we could have a picture of the Kalamazoo.

We have had some interesting local publicity in the Pleiad that showed how much some boys know about china ware.  The first announcement stated that our plates were metal.  We corrected that and told them that they were made of Wedgwood, and believe it or not, the next issue stated that they were made of wood composition, but the last issue has corrected the correction and the boy has evidently been doing some research in the library and knows a good deal more about it than when he started to write these articles.

We are glad to know that you are going to be with us on the 4th, and although this is not quite yet official, I think we may call a meeting of the general committee for Friday noon of the 4th to save having another meeting before Homecoming, but I have to check with Evan Weidman on it and will let you know a little later.

Saw Mary Jane last night for a few minutes and she was glad to know you are coming.  Said her dad was in Florida with your folks.

            Cordially yours,

            Kenneth J. Hollinshead, '10
