Sebastian
Estate of Hugh Sebastian

Hugh Sebastian's collection at the time of his
death in 2001 encompassed 2136 books, 1005 periodicals, and several linear feet
of archival material--all of which he left to Albion College. An example of a
treasure from the collection includes a copy of The Curse of Drink,
edited by Elton R. Shaw with a special introduction by former Albion College
president,
Samuel Dickie.
Hugh Sebastian was described by Jim Whitehouse,
Associate Vice President of Major Gifts, Class of 1969, as "truly a man of
letters, as as a longtime book salesman for McMillan. He taught in a couple of
different colleges/universities, and from my many visits with him, I don't think
he ever read a frivolous book." Sebastian and
Russell Babcock,
Class of 1927, another distinguished donor to the library, were good friends
from college until death.
