Start Here to find articles in
journals and magazines
To search for articles on a particular topic or by a particular author, you
will need to use an index (usually referred to as an "online
database"). The Albion College Library currently subscribes to more than
100
online databases, covering a variety of subject areas. There are general databases
which cover many subject areas, such as Expanded Academic Index,
Readers
Guide, and WilsonSelectPlus. There are many other databases which
are more focused on specific subject areas - you can choose appropriate
databases by selecting from our list arranged by subject, or from our list
arranged by title. To do a thorough search, you will often need to check more
than one database.

Retrieving Articles
In some cases, the full text of an article will be included in the database, and
you will be able to print the article, or email it to yourself. If the article
is not available in full text, there are several other retrieval options:
- Look up the title of the
journal (not the title of the article)
in the Library Online Catalog, to see if the journal is available in our collection. This will also tell you if we
have a subscription to the online version of the journal. We also maintain a list of
Electronic Journals.
- Use the Library's
Full Text Finder page. This will help you locate full text articles through online databases.
- Try FindArticles, which is a directory
of free magazine and journal articles available on the web.
- Other sources of free online journals include:
If the Albion College Library doesn't own the article you need, you can request that we
borrow it for you from another library through Interlibrary Loan.

Online Databases:
If you would like assistance in choosing appropriate databases, we have prepared a number of
Research Guides that list a variety of research resources for specific subject
areas and
for specific courses.
In addition, librarians will be happy to work with individual patrons to identify
appropriate databases (and other resources) for your research. To take advantage of this service,
stop at the Reference Desk (just inside the Library entrance), telephone extension 0382, or email us.
