SHARING
RESOURCES WITH THE ALBION COMMUNITY
DO I NEED A COMMUNITY BORROWER'S CARD?
Albion College welcomes all area residents to use the college
library. Patrons are invited to search the On-line
Catalog, and use our books, periodicals and government documents collections
within the library. A Community Borrower's card is necessary only to check
materials out of the building.
If you would like to apply for a Community
Borrower's Card,
please contact the Circulation Services
Coordinator (ext. 0383) in the Circulation Office during normal business
hours.
WHO IS
ELIGIBLE?
As a result of a reciprocal agreement with the Albion Public Library, we are
able to offer Community Borrower’s cards free of charge to Public
Library patrons who are in good standing. Patrons must have a valid
public library card, owing less than $2.00, and having fewer than 2 items
overdue. Picture identification
is required (e.g., a driver's
license). Patrons must also be 18 years or older and classified as
"Regular" by the Albion Public Library.
Albion College faculty and staff dependents may also apply for a
Community Borrower's Card. Dependents under 18 require a parent's
signature on the application.
The following groups are also eligible to
request a Community Borrower's card:
- Albion College faculty/staff spouses and dependents
- Albion College alumni
- Michigan Methodist ministers
- Other area-of-service clergy
- Area-of service librarians
- Area-of-service school teachers
- Starr Commonwealth (Albion campus) faculty and administrators
- Albion High School Phi Beta Kappa award winners
ARE THERE ANY LIMITATIONS?
The needs of Albion College students and faculty are given first
priority. With this in mind, the following restrictions apply to community
borrowers:
- No more than ten items may be borrowed at one time
- Interlibrary loan services will not be provided
- Wireless laptops may not be checked out
- Course reserves may not be checked out
WHEN MUST I RENEW MY CARD?
Community Borrower's Cards are valid for three years from the date of
issuance, except for Albion High School Phi Beta Kappa award winners.
Award winner's cards expire at the end of the school year following the year in
which the award was given.
WHAT ARE THE CIRCULATION POLICIES?
The library's circulation policies are detailed in the Stockwell-Mudd
Libraries Circulation Policies brochure. Community borrowers are
subject to the policies outlined therein. Please refer to the brochure for
information on charging out materials, issuing holds and recalls, and for billing
policies.
CAN I USE THE LIBRARY
COMPUTERS?
The public access computers in the
Reference Area of the Albion College Library are available for scholarly
research and educational purposes only.
Albion community members may use the computers,
although at busy times, preference will be given to members of the Albion
College campus community. See the Albion
College Library Public- Use Computer Policy for more information.
A computer lab, located in the lower level of the Mudd
building, is
available for word processing, e-mail
and general internet browsing. Policies for the Mudd Computer lab are
available at: http://www.albion.edu/it/community.
QUESTIONS?
The student desk attendants can assist with many problems. For
clarification of circulation policy, ask for the Circulation
Services Coordinator (ext. 0383). If she is unavailable, please see a
librarian.
