Circulation Desk

Position Description

Must be willing to work weekends.  Checking books and reserves in and out, putting books in correct call number order on sorting shelves, maintaining order of reserves,  answer phones and take messages, maintain copiers and printers, general supervision of circulation area, assist patrons in various ways, other tasks as necessary.  Responsible for own hours and finding own substitutes. 

Because the circulation desk is the first thing people see when they enter the library, it is considered the hub of information.  Therefore, you should be willing and able to learn a number of things about the library, such as the various departments, their locations, and the staff members who work in them. 

Hours Approximately 8 -10 hours per week
 Starting Pay Rate $7.00/Hr.

Interlibrary Loan/MeLCat

Position Description

Interlibrary Loan/MeLCat student employees are responsible for processing materials borrowed from and lent to other libraries.  Typical duties include entering information into the library catalog, retrieving materials and scanning articles. Excellent data entry skills, attention-to-detail and self-sufficiency are musts.  Accuracy and reliability is very important. Hours can be set around your schedule no weekend or evening hours required. ILL is a very busy and vibrant area of the library. Consistently steady all semester but middle to late semester is the busiest time. 

Hours 2-3 hours per day 
Starting Pay Rate $7.25/hr.

Position Description

Hours

10 per week (2 hours a day) from 10 – 11 am and 2 – 3 pm.

Periodicals Desk

Position Description

The successful candidates for this position will be required to work in the Stockwell Library at the Periodicals desk, reporting to the Government Documents Coordinator.  Primary duties will include, but not be limited to: assisting patrons in locating items (newspapers, microfilm/microfiche, magazines, journals, government documents); answering the phone; assisting the maintenance of statistics; maintenance of copy machines/reader-printers and assisting patrons with operation of these machines; assist Periodicals and Government Documents supervisors with check-in/filing and shelving tasks; assist with opening and closing procedures as needed.

Hours of work are varied and based on student’s schedules.  Nights and weekend work is available.  Schedules are closely kept and workers are responsible for finding their own replacements if they are unable to report for work at their designated time.

Position Description

Working last two hours that library is open, walking throughout Stockwell and Mudd buildings.  

Reporting any immediate problems to Campus Safety.  Keep a log of other items of concern, such as graffiti, lights left on, rooms unlocked, or anything else that arises so that the Circulation Services Coordinator will be informed. Picking up books. 

Ensuring that all patrons have left at closing time, and assisting desk workers with closing procedures, such as closing windows, turning down terminals, and locking building.   Must be willing to work weekends.

Hours Approximately 6 - 8 hours per week
Starting Pay Rate $7.15/hr.

Shelf Maintenance

Position Description

Maintain the appearance and order of assigned area in library.  Must be able to accurately organize books in call number order. 

Replace books that have been checked out to their correct location, and ensure current books are already in order. 

Pull books that are in need of repair.

Hours

Approximately 6 - 8 hours per week.

Starting Pay Rate $7.00/hr.

Position Description

This type of position is perfect for someone interested either in the history of the College or the Methodist Church; historical research; archives, library, museum, rare books, preservation or conservation studies; or those majoring in history or computer science.  A variety of jobs available for the responsible and detail-oriented student, including but not limited to:

 

·        Conservation of damaged library and rare books and archival material

·        Preservation of archival collection materials

·        Inventorying of archival collections

·        Processing of archival collections

·        Reorganization of archival collections

·        Database development

·        Data entry

·        Photograph, document and rare books scanning

·        Web design

·        Historical research

·        Audiovisual reformatting

·        Cataloguing and/or indexing of rare and archival material

Position Description

Work a variety of tasks in various areas of the library.  These include Circulation, Periodicals, Government Documents, Technical Services, and Shelf Maintenance. 

See various library job descriptions for more information.  These are full-time positions, normally 8:00 am to 5:00 pm throughout the summer.  Must be responsible, flexible and willing to work.
