Course Reserves

Housed at the Circulation Desk, course reserves are designed to provide easy access to materials that are in demand by a large number of students. They are given short loan periods to maximize access.  Some materials can also be placed on electronic reserves (e-reserves) which can be accessed full-text via the world wide web.

Reserve Loan Periods

Reserve files, books and loan copies have different loan periods based on professor preference.  The three loan periods are:

  •  Two hours, no overnight - may be used in the library only for up to two hours.

  • Two hours, overnight - may leave the library only if checked out within two hours of the library closing.

  • Three day - may be taken out of the library for up to three days.

Locating Reserves in the Online Library Catalog

By providing the call number or file number of the reserve item you wish to check out, the circulation desk attendant can easily retrieve them for you.  The terminal located at the Circulation desk provides course lists from the web-based online catalog.

From the library home page, (http://www.albion.edu/library/) click GO to enter the Albion College Online Library Catalog.

Search reserves by either Professor or Course name by clicking the appropriate link.

Type in the name and press Search.

Course reserve information will display.  Note the call, loan or file number of the material you wish to check out.

If the material is available online, the status will read "ELECTRONIC COPY AVAILABLE."

Clicking the material link will display more detailed information.  Status will be either AVAILABLE or checked out.

If the item is available online, you must enter your last name and barcode from your college ID in order to view and print the document.

See Accessing Electronic Reserves for more information..

  • If the item is not checked out, give the desk attendant your college ID.

  • Provide the call number, loan copy or file number of the material you wish to check out.
