Faculty and Staff Professional Development Opportunities in Technology

Are you interested in learning about new technology? How about collaborating with others to get new ideas on teaching with technology? If this is you, we've got great news!  This page is designated to help you find out about exciting events and collaborative opportunities that are available to you. The following are projects conceived by our colleagues in the GLCA or the Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM).  All are in the process of being developed as programs with NITLE and their project coordinators are actively seeking collaborators. 

September 2006

  • Literature of the Roman Empire, 70-180 CE (ICLAT 294/394), September 11 - December 7, 2006 Start / End times TBA, Sunoikisis

    For faculty and students in classical studies from participating colleges who are interested in exploring the benefits of collaborative learning in a classroom setting. This team-taught Intercampus Collaborative Course (ICC) allows advanced students of Latin to study with a larger group of peers and learn from a wide range of faculty. This ICC may appeal especially to advanced students of Latin who wish to take it as an independent study on their home campus.
     

  • Hellenistic Poetry (ICAGR 295/395), September 13 - December 9, 2006 Start / End times TBA, Sunoikisis

    For faculty and students in classical studies from participating colleges who are interested in exploring the benefits of collaborative learning in a classroom setting. This team-taught, Intercampus Collaborative Course (ICC) allows advanced students of Greek to study with a larger group of peers and learn from a wide range of faculty. This ICC may appeal especially to advanced students of Greek who wish to take it as an independent study on their home campus.
     

  • Introduction to Podcasting, September 22, 2006 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Centenary College, Shreveport, LA

    For faculty, instructional technologists, and librarians from Centenary College and other liberal education institutions who are interested in learning how to create and share podcasts. (Liaisons' deadline: August 22, 2006)
     

  • Emerging Technologies , September 29, 2006, 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m., Ursinus College, Collegeville, PA

    For faculty, technologists, and librarians from Ursinus College and other participating colleges interested in an introduction to a wide range of recently developed applications that have a potential for classroom use.
     

  • Pedagogy and Digital Technologies: Language Labs in the 21st Century, September 29 - October 1, 2006, 6:00 p.m. (F) - 12:00 p.m. (Sun), Wabash College, Crawfordsville, IN

    For language faculty, language learning center staff, and instructional technologists from participating colleges who are considering the present and future impact of digital technologies on the teaching and learning of languages.

    For classics faculty from participating colleges who are interested in learning more about existing Sunoikisis programs and to explore new options for collaboration on a national level.

    For faculty of language faculty from participating colleges interested in reviewing achieved outcomes of past collaboration and exploring the pedagogical advantages and possibilities of future inter-institutional collaboration.

    For liberal arts faculty who are interested in interpreting and analyzing their spatial data sets with appropriate statistical tools. Primarily for faculty from the social and natural sciences; however, faculty from any discipline may participate.
