1928 Alumna Attends 80th Homecoming |
Walter and Edith Strait Edith Bentley Strait, 28, (center) celebrated the 80th anniversary of her
college graduation with a trip to Albions Homecoming this fall. During her
campus visit, she was greeted by President Donna Randall (right). Edith, who is
102, traveled to Albion with her son, Richard, 58, (left) who attended his 50th
reunion. Edith married her classmate, Walter Strait, 28, shortly after they
graduated from Albion. After teaching in Michigan for a brief period, they moved
to Culver, Indiana where Walter taught physics and headed the science department
at Culver Academy and Edith taught home economics in the public schools. He
passed away in 1982. From her Albion days, Edith especially remembers attending
what was then mandatory chapel, noting we had numbered seats, and we had better
be in them! After earning his Albion degree, Richard graduated from dental
school at Northwestern University and practiced dentistry in northern Indiana.
He is now retired. |
