Technique is taught in concordance with each student's vision and imagination.

Situated against the flank of a verdant hill, the Marchutz School occupies its own studio building just outside Aix along the route de Cézanne. The atelier is modern in style but maintains a classical simplicity, built of the same stone, stucco, and tile found in the much older buildings of the region.

COMMENTS: Established in 1477, the Eberhard-Karls-Universität (Tübingen University) is one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in Germany, and it holds a distinguished place in the intellectual life of the country. The news magazine Der Spiegel recently reported that German university faculty rank Tübingen University among the country's ten leading schools in Biology, History, Medicine, English Studies, Education, Psychology, and Law. The University also received the top ranking for German Studies.
Over one-fourth of Tübingen's 85,000 residents are university students. University institutes and student housing are integrated into the town, occupying many of its historical edifices, including a ducal fortress. According to the news magazine Focus, the quality of life in Tübingen is considered among the best which Germany has to offer in terms of environment, culture, security, and health.

LENGTH: Academic year, made up of 3 terms. One semester possible (Spring only).

CREDIT: 8.0 Albion College units granted for 6 courses maximum that are taken during 3 complete terms. Spring and summer terms would offer 4 courses, with 4 Albion College credits granted. COSTS NOT COVERED BY ALBION: Travel to England; food; books; miscellaneous personal expenses.

Students applying for the spring semester are encouraged to apply early to have the best chance for on-campus housing.

FACULTY ADVISOR: TBD

COMMENTS: One of the newest British Universities, founded in 1961, Sussex offers a full curriculum, including strong offerings in the physical sciences as well as the traditional junior year abroad courses taken by Americans in the humanities and social sciences. Courses are conducted in the traditional British manner: a mix of lectures and classes, but heavy emphasis on tutorial work. This may require more self-motivation than to what Albion students are accustomed. Students are encouraged to enroll for the full year, but partial-year study is possible, for Spring semester only, which includes the Spring and Summer terms at Sussex.

To attend Fall semester, students can sit for exams/do additional work before the winter break begins on December 21 in order to return to Albion for the start of Spring semester. COMMENTS: Hungary has a long tradition of excellence in mathematics education. However, because of the language barrier, students have not been able to take advantage of the skill and dedication of the mathematics faculties of Hungarian universities.

Initiated by Paul Erdos, Laszlo Lovasz, and Vera T. Sos, the program Budapest Semesters in Mathematics provides a unique opportunity for North American undergraduates. Through this program, mathematics and computer science majors in their junior/senior years may spend one or two semesters in Budapest and study under the tutelage of eminent Hungarian scholar-teachers. The instructors of Budapest Semesters in Mathematics are members of Eotvos University and the Mathematical Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the two institutions known for having educated more than half of Hungary's highly acclaimed mathematicians. Most instructors have had teaching experience in North America and are familiar with the cultural differences.

Dž All courses are taught in English.
      Dž Classes are small.
Dž Credits are transferable to North American colleges and universities.
Dž The school is near the center of historic Budapest.
      Dž Living costs are modest.

Semesters start in the first week of September and February. An optional intensive language course is offered about two weeks before regular classes begin. Early applications are encouraged. Qualified applicants will be accepted to participate in the program on a rolling basis once their applications are complete.
