SUBJECTS: Classes are offered in the social sciences, business, economics, technological sciences, natural sciences and health sciences.

COMMENTS: The Australian National University is the Australian center for research and is one of the world’s premiere universities. Students can choose from a wide range of classes, however, and do not need to limit themselves to a research oriented program. One in five students at the University is an international student which creates a very diverse and dynamic environment. The National University is located in the capitol of Australia, Canberra, and is within driving distance of several attractions including the Snowy Mountains, the beaches of the eastern coast and Sydney.

COMMENTS: Griffith University, located in Queensland, launched the first environmental studies program in Australia. The city of Brisbane is the capital city of Queensland and is only an hour’s drive from the famous Gold Coast. It is a clean, safe city with a warm, sub-tropical climate.

At the University of Newcastle, North American students are fully integrated into the life of the University, both in the classroom and the halls of residence. A student visa is required. COMMENTS: This program offers students of any discipline a great chance to experience academic and social life outside of the United States. Located in Perth, Australia (the western coast of Australia) Murdoch University is focused on research programs and houses Australia’s premiere veterinary science complex. Murdoch also houses a brand new Media Arts Center that is the most up-to-date facility of its kind in Australia. Several field trips around Australia and the surrounding nations are also available to students.

COMMENTS: Named after the British explorer, Captain James Cook, the university offers a first class education in a unique tropical setting. The University's main campuses are in the northern Queensland cities of Townsville and Cairns, which are home to a combined total of 12,000 students from over 70 different countries. AustraLearn orientation in Cairns precedes the beginning of classes. Students will receive information packets during a full orientation program that includes excursions and social events as well as academic information. A student Visa is required.

Sydney Internship Program

Sydney Opera HouseSUBJECTS: Australian culture and society; various liberal arts course offerings. Internships are offered in a variety of areas, including but not limited to: business and economics, advertising and public relations, the arts, film and television, health and human services, hospitality administration, politics, journalism, and international organizations.

PREREQUISITES: 3.0 GPA; junior-level standing; demonstrated maturity.

LENGTH: Semester or Academic Year.

CREDIT: 4 Albion units (16 semester hours credit); 3 academic units + 1 unit internship (1 Albion unit = 4 semester hours).

HOUSING: Student housing in the BU (Boston University) Sydney Center.

COSTS NOT COVERED BY ALBION: Transportation to/from Sydney; textbooks; food; miscellaneous personal and vacation expenses.

Students are encouraged to apply early, especially for the spring semester.

FACULTY ADVISOR: Al Pheley, Ford Institute, Robinson Hall.

COMMENTS: The semester is in two parts. The first six weeks consist of orientation, tutorials, courses, and field trips. Students complete two courses before beginning their internships. During the second eight weeks, students attend their internships. Internships are in a variety of areas on this program, and should be considered unpaid (although on occasion a stipend may be involved). A student visa is required; the Sydney Internship Program will help students with the visa process.

COMMENTS: The University of Wollongong was established in 1952 with a student population of 14,000 from over 60 countries. Today Wollongong has the largest regional art gallery in Australia. Many buildings on campus have a view of the pacific Ocean, since the campus rests at the foot of Mt. Keria. Wollongong is an hour long train ride from Sydney.
